Bear Cove is part of the beautiful Kachemak Bay State Park and wildlife is plentiful here. The rich lagoons and waters just off shore attract whales, sea otters, seals, dolphins and impressive salmon runs. The seashore and the tidal marshes are teaming with life; mollusks, anthropoids and sea stars are just a few that can be seen at low tide.

Many visitors arrive to escape into the wilderness for a few days by boating, kayaking or hiking to such scenic areas around the park.

Mooring Buoy
We have a mooring buoy for you if you are arriving in your own boat. It is an orange buoy with Bear Island Cabins written on it, and located to the right of where our boat the Practice Run is tied up.

Welcome to Bear Island Cabins

Our cabin rental in Bear Cove, Alaska is located at the head of Kachemak Bay just a one hour boat ride from Homer, Alaska.

This cozy one room cabin, nestled up on a cliff at the water's edge has all the comforts of home. With a spectacular view of the cove, mountains, and glacier, you can wile away the hours relaxing on the deck, listening to the mesmerizing sound of the water lapping on the shore while you contemplate the rugged beauty of the scenery. This cabin getaway is perfect for those who want to enjoy the tranquility of nature at it's best, in a "fancy camping" atmosphere.

While in Bear Cove you may want to kayak, dig clams at low tide, pack a picnic lunch, kayak to the back of the cove and hike the short trail to Loon Lake. You can pick red and black currents and high bush cranberries in the fall, or if you have arrived in your own boat you can either fish for halibut or troll for salmon in the bay just outside the island. Do you like birding? We have seen a large variety of birds including a pair of eagles that have built a nest which you can easily see from the deck. And last but not least of course, there are the bears.....
